New Mission to Russian-speaking People Launched

Over the past several years, the Northbrook congregation has become home to many immigrants who have arrived in the United States during the last 10 years. The friends and members of the Northbrook congregation are a mosaic of nations and cultures. Nearly 20 percent of those who attend services are from countries that made up the former Soviet Union. Many of these people were members of the underground church who were persecuted.

In May, approximately 60 of our friends and members, who have a Russian language heritage, formed a core group for a new mission in Minnetonka, MN. They are currently meeting across the street from Minnetonka City Hall in the Minnetonka Church. In time they hope to become Northbrook's second church plant. Northbrook's goal is to start seven new congregations by 2010.

The new mission will serve people who are not proficient in the English language and who long for a worship environment that reflects their heritage and customs. Northbrook will continue to provide a variety of bilingual services-including Russian.
